Default Deposits
What is a reasonable level of deposit to ask a client for in advance (portrait work).

I've had a few problems with no shows and late cancellations and I'm sick of it, so starting tomorrow all bookings will need to pay a fee in advance to secure their place along with signing a contract

Depends on the assignment. For a sitting fee I usually charge a nominal fee: $50 usually does it. For any type of events coverage, it starts at 50%.

I charge 50% down. If someone pays that much, they aren't apt to back out.

I charge $125 for the session fee and it includes nothing. I used to include some prinmts, but backed away from that.
