Default You gotta be kidding!

Just today, I lady phoned and left a message asking what to purchase in the terms of photographic equipment, lights, studio equipment and such that she needed in order to start a photography business.

She also wanted me to take a full day to explain the "in's and outside" of not only the business side and taking pictures, but where to get the prints printed and how to market.

I called back as asked if she actually knew anything about photography, photographic equipment, how to properly use studio lighting, editing and post processing in photoshop.

She uses a P & S and everyone has been telling her how great her pictures are and to go pro.

I told her there's was a lot more involved in photography than just taking pictures with a P & S. And it would take her more and a few hours or so to learn. I questioned her about depth of field, shutter speeds and f stops. Bottom line... she was clueless and mentioned that she was going to put the camera on auto and learn from there.

Unfortunately, I had to turn down her request as there's more than enough clueless photographers already flooding the market.

That's bout as far as our conservation went......click went the phone on her end.

You should have guided her towards some lenses and equipment you wanted, then bought them at rock bottom prices in a couple months when she quit.

I did, however tell her that entry level equipment would only work so well and if she was serious, what she needed was top of the line pro gear, which ain't cheap.

I'm sure after she got off the phone with you, she proceeded to call the best restaurant in town and ask the head chef to take a full day and explain the "in's and outsides" of preparing fine cuisine so she can cook exquisite food to photograph.

How does someone develop the balls to call a professional and ask them, in essence, "Hey, can you help me compete with you? That would be great."

"You'll probably want to start off with something like the Hasselblad H5D."

You should have told her you teach that and quoted her a price!

I don't think I would have bothered calling her back...
Sometimes it's just obvious.
