Question Group Pricing...???

So, I've done pricing for family (5 or less), Weddings, Engagements, so on and so forth, but I have never considered anything more until now. Today I was sent an e-mail asking this:

"...take a photo of approx 26 people (kids included)?

the second question, are you sessions available for purchase as a disk?

third, once the large group photo is taken, would you then be available to break down the groups into individual family shoots there are approx 7 - 10 individual families amoung the 26 (hope that makes sense)

if you are available for all of the above, please let me know the cost (approx is just fine) and what the next step in booking our session with you would be."

...Now, my question is; What would you charge? I had someone suggest $900 for the session, but I'm not sure... Thanks for your feedback! =)

Dealing with this situation is always difficult.

I would reccomend figuring out how long you will be shooting and charge an hourly rate, as you do not have any idea about how many sale you will get. Some families will only want a one group print while some families will want all sorts of prints.

When letting the customer know the price also let her know how much per head t will be, it will get her over the shock of the cost and also give her an idea of how to sort out who pays what in the family. I use this technique for all large groups.

I would work it out the following way.

26 people, about half hour per person is 13 hours total. I am guessing you will be expected to take Whole group, family groups and individual portraits.

$100 per hour is $1300, divided by 26 people is $50.

$50 pp is a much more friendly price than $1300. It also makes it fair for all teh families, smaller ones pay less that teh larger ones.

charge per family (assuming you're going to give the disc)
each family pays for their own disc to "share the cost"
each family does not get all the pictures, only the pics of their family, and the group photo.

OR,

charge a percentage off your normal price x number of families, and they each get all the pics.

these sessions are no less work than a normal session, you're being forced to cram more people into less time and thats not easy. That means you're going to spend much more time in PP too, as there will be fewer images to spare because much of the time wil be spent moving bodies and parents chasing children.

Thank you for your guy's advice... I meet with her tomorrow night to iron out details of price and what not. I'm a bit nervous, but it can't be too difficult, plus i have a friend who's volunteered to assist me, so it should be okay. Thank you again!! =)

I priced it $50 per person, so it ended up $1200.
