Default Question for the sports shooters out there

Ok, some of you know I shoot a lot of MMA photos. I've been working hard to make a name for myself--and have been successful so far--but now I'm trying to earn money doing this. Don't get me wrong, I've been earning money for sure. Just mainly making money selling photos on spec (done relatively-well).

The problem is, I'm wondering how you go about getting published in magazines and getting paid. I've been published in some magazines but, so far, none of them have paid. It's nice to see my photos in print and all but that doesn't pay the bills. I don't expect to get rich but would like to be compensated at least a little. I'd also like to get published in some other magazines but have been unsuccessful in contacting many of them.

Any tips?

Thanks.

Yup..google for MMA magazines. Here: MMA Magazines - Google Search
Get the editors' names through staff name or hit the contact button and write a query letter telling them of your experience in shooting MMA and if they are willing to purchase photos on a PER assignment basis and get their email to send some examples of your work.

That's pretty much what I'm doing. Guess I just have to be persistent. I'm sure they get LOTS of emails/phone calls from people with photos and articles.

You should be paid for your work, but you're right- you have to be persistent. Sometimes it takes time for people to notice you and your imagery. Editors are busy people. They are always looking for new photographers who produce good work, but they don't always have very much time to devote to finding them.

Make contact, then follow up. If possible, read submission guidelines if they have them posted on the web, otherwise ask for them when you make your initial contact.
