What Canon says and what a promoter says are 2 different things, like I said, it doesn't usually matter what level the DSLR is at or the photographer using it either, if it has a removable lens it is typically considered professional photo equipment by promoters etc.

That's what I was thinking when I took my Rebel to the concert. I wasn't the only one there with a DSLR, either, so I guess other people thought that, too. Still though, I do agree that it's kind of a grey area and could still be considered a professional camera. Maybe I just lucked out this time?

I'm thinking I'll just tell this person no. The aspiring photog in me is thinking that's the best way to go. The obsessive fan girl in me wants to say yes, but I need to stop listening to her.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Here is the FIFA version. Not sure what it said on your ticket.

Ticket Holders may not record or transmit any sound, moving or still image or description of the Match (or any result or statistic of the Match) other than for private use. It is strictly forbidden to disseminate any sound, moving or still image, description, result or statistic of the Match, in whole or in part, for any sort of public access, irrespective of the transmission form, whether over the internet, radio, television, mobile phone, data accessory or any other current and/or future media (now known or hereinafter invented and/or devised). Ticket Holders may not assist any other person(s) to conduct such activities.

FIFA and the FA are very closely rights managed on all fronts... Though, I'd imagine American Idol to be pretty closely guarded, too... I wonder how they compare

According to Copps Coliseum page on Ticketmaster, which is where I am assuming you seen this show, it simply says under the General Rules section:

General Rules
No smoking in the building
No video cameras
Duffle Bags and Knapsacks/Backpacks are not permitted inside the facilty.

So unless American Idol put any additional restrictions on it seems like you might be ok. I just googled the issue and found that it depended on the venue so unless your ticket said something different you might technically be ok.

Yeah, that's where the concert was. That's good information to know. And no, there's no additional restrictions on the ticket.

At first I had no real reason to say no, I just decided I didn't feel right about the request. However, I've now heard back from the person. Although they say they won't be making money off this book, they said it will be available for sale online and the company making the album will be profiting off of it. If someone's going to be making money off my photos then I'd better be getting something more than just credit. And since I won't be, it's a definite no from me.
