Default Do real people work at shutterstock?

I submitted this

Desert Lupine by Wade Courtney, on Flickr

It was rejected. Here was the comment: Focus--Your image is not in focus or focus is not located where we feel it works best.

In fact all 10 of the photos I submitted were rejected. Some because of no commercial value, which is funny since they've already been published.

This one was rejected too. No reason given.

Ole Blue Eyes by Wade Courtney, on Flickr

Whatever...

Yes, my ego is bruised, yes I will get over it. No, they won't get a second chance.

I could be wrong, but I think they automatically reject pet photos, because they get way too many. They are both nice shots though.

It's not you, it's them.

Thanks. Maybe I'm not cut out for stock photography and that's ok.

That wouldn't surprise me but that is a wicked shot of the dog, your title says it all with that one.

Shutterstock is kind of funny. I got rejected the first few times for some of the same reasons, and one of the photos I sumbitted was sold to Camel Cigarrettes for a good chunk of money.

Once you get "in" with them, sales are kind of funny. They'll take just about anything as long as there isn't much noise. The photos will sell like mad for a month or two, and then sales will drop off significantly. You have to constantly refresh your stock of photos to keep up the sales.

Istock is just a big of a PIA to get into, and they're more picky about what you submit. Sales aren't as frequent as Shutterstock, but you make more money per sale so it evens out. Unlike Shutterstock, it seems like the photos continue to sell well beyond the first month or two. However, only a few of my photos are selling on Istock (only about 25% of the photos available have actually sold), where 100% of my photos have sold on Shutterstock (very similar photos).

Dreamstime is really easy to get into, but I don't sell crap there. I was lucky enough to sell one "exclusive rights" photo, but otherwise it hasn't been worth the effort.

Good luck with your stock photography future. It's a PIA, but can be decent money over time.
