How to verify amount of press run copies from a publication?

I've been asked for commercial usage rights to some of my photos for a publication. Though, I know prices fluctuate depending on how many press runs will be made. But, is there a way to verify the amount requested from our end as photographers? It would be troublesome if a company requested for a 5,000 press run but actually printed 10,000 copies.

Find out who prints it, call and ask them to make sure.
