Default How to planning newborn shoot

Hello,
I've got a question for the newborn photographers: how do you set a date?

Newborns are best photographed within ten days of the birth. But since that is something flexibel, how do you arrange this?

Could someone please tell me their "workflow" planning a newborn shoot?

Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing it's a "stand by" or "on call" sort of thing.

Another angle is to contact the local maternity units/hospitals. When we had our daughter, a photographer was 'doing the rounds' and taking the shots in the hospital rooms. They brought their own props and the obvious benefit from a photographers perspective is that she was able to fit in several sessions in an afternoon.

I schedule a newborn session a week or two after the mom's due date. A lot of the time, this date still works out since mom has the baby very close to her date.

I tell mom ahead of time that it is best to do a newborn session within 10 days of birth (the earlier the better). Knowing this, if she has her baby way ahead of our session date or is late, we reschedule based on my availability ~ scheduling a weekday session if need be.

Hope this helps!

I have done a few newborns and I try to leave a weekend slot available within a week after the due date. If the baby is early, we can reschedule, for a weekday if needed.
