Default Have you ordered Rep/Business cards thru WHCC?

I'm in the process of making some rep cards for myself with WHCC and I'm finding the Safe Line a little confusing. I was hoping someone here had ordered with them before.

I know WHCC likes you to crop your images to size, so when creating the images for the front and back of my rep cards, I made them to size (2x3.5). But when you bring the image in, the Safe Line literally cuts out a third of your image space. Can anyone tell me if it's okay to not worry about that, and will it print to the outer edge, therefore allowing me to get all of my 2x3.5 image? I can see the Safe Line being important in a larger print, but it seems kinda silly with the rep cards. I just don't want to order them and then actually have all the image beyond the Safe Line to be gone.

Any help would be appreciated!

Anything outside of the safe line is in danger of being cut off. It's best to have a solid border or other transition from inside the safe line to the outer edge of the card.

I've ordered a few sets and they are very nice.

Like Jim says anything outside of the safe line is in "danger" of being cut off. I ordered my business cards through WHCC and did the same thing, I designed the card in photoshop using a 2x3.5 canvas, and when I imported it a lot of my work was outside the safe line. So I shrunk everything down so it would fit, and when I got my cards the writing was smaller then I would have liked. I wonder if I would have left it how it would have turned out. I think next time I might just take the chance and if it does not work out its only $30.

Let us know what you did and how it turned out.

Jojo

Right, I understand that anything beyond the Safe Line is in "danger", but what I was wondering was what was actually cut off from someone's who ordered through them.

You said yours turned out nice, do you know how much of your 2x3.5 image was actually cut off or did it stay pretty much intact?

jojonac--I thought about doing it that way, but I figured it would end up too small--as you confirmed. I was going to go with Rep Cards for my first order so perhaps I'll give it a try at full size and won't be at such a loss with only 50 cards if they don't turn out.

The problem with the question is that the results are likely to vary from print run to print run.

You can't look at my cards and say "oh, this is what will be cut." It just doesn't work that way.

I guess conceptually I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around it (I'm one of those visual types). If the actual card dimensions are 2x3.5, and the canvas I create in Photoshop is 2x3.5 (to fill the space completely), then having that much of a "danger" area seems unlikely to cut anything off since they say the size of the cards ARE 2x3.5. Does that make sense the way I worded that? I keep imagining getting them back and everything beyond that Safe Line, being gone.

Sounds like you didn't read their explanation of overprinting, etc. Basically, they "stretch" your image a bit in all directions to avoid white lines on the edges.

They say up to 1/4 inch on each side.

Oh no, I assure you I read through alllllll their material. Problem is, I can't find the information on the Rep/Business Cards now that I read before and I can't remember what all it said. I JUST signed up with them two days ago so just getting a feel for everything right now.

They cost what .. like $12 .. just order some and see how they turn out. Personally I follow safe line rules no matter what product I'm designing for. Just sit down and design them so that if it crops in .. it looks good .. if it doesn't crop in .. it still looks good.

I was confused too. When I sent my order in they actually called me and told me that they thought it wouldn't look right and explained the whole thing to me. They are VERY careful with their orders and good to explain things so give them a call or send an e-mail.
