Would you buy any of these? Are these photos inviting enough to for you to think about making a purchase? for you, or for your friend/spouse/sis...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm asking cause I just finished doing a website for the designer, the photos she brought in were not that satisfactory (too much flair/the colors were not right...), she wanted to shoot those items again! I asked her to bring some bags, I would give her a test & only after she likes them, we'll talk about other details She saw the photos & instantly liked them a lot. So, now is the hard part, how much I should charge for those images? They will be used for web & will stay on the site for a long time. Remember that I'm not a pro, but its a complementary service to my wed design & development services that I do like to develop & make it better, which brings in the second Q, how can I make these photos better!? any critics? Cheers, |

The first two are done nicely in my opinion. The last two are not as big a fan of, the last one the most. I don't feel that the background complements the bag.

Numbers 1,2, and 4 sort of look distorted, are you using a wide angle lens to take these pictures? 35mm or lower? If so maybe try some shots at 100mm. I really think the simple background is the way to go. As for what to charge...that depends on a lot of other variables, ie...how much money is the lady going to make from these images, how many people will see the website on a daily basis, will the images be used for other then just website...how much time does it take you to shoot the images and post process them...the list goes on and on. Im sure there are some people on here that are into commercial photography that can give you some good advice. Also you might try doing a couple of thread searches to see what comes up.

thanks for the input jojo. all were shot in a 18-55 mm range, I'll tr to give teh 100 mm a try too!
As for the prices, I'm hoping to get an estimate & feedback. I can't answer all the Qs you asked now, cause the site is brand new. Hope the commerical photography ppl will be able to give me an estimate. Thanks again, Cheers Last edited by ShantDotMe; 08-01-2010 at 02:26 AM. Reason: typo |

I think you have done quite well with these for not being someone with experience in this area. However, I did notice that you shot these in a light tent, which suggests this wasn't your first rodeo. I am going to let someone else answer the pricing question, though I would suggest you at least get a purse out of the deal.
Could you improve these with some PP? I believe you can. I took a quick stab at your first image and came up with the following: ![]() Let me know if you like it and I'll show you what I did.

your totally right, I shot it in a 90x90cm totally portable light tent that I made myself (I should share that somewhere here too).
I liked the way you processes the photo, sharpening? what else? & will defently follow your hints. Looking fwd to know what you exactly did to it! Still guys, I'm looking for critics/comments & pricing info

I have talked a good deal about doing a Levels adjustment on your images. It is the first thing I do to every image I process and it is relativity easy to accomplish. Check out my tutorial for details and scroll to the bottom for more information and some alternative ways to get the same results.
That was the most significant thing I did, however, I also added a barely visible gradient to the background. Light tents have a tendency to make things look like they are floating in white space. I like to give at least a very slight hint at three dimensional space.

I actually think the perspective from the wider angle of view is eye catching and works with the quirky fun look of the bags themselves. I'd stick to the plain background (and please do try to get it white), but I really like the wider angle look.
