Default What to charge

Hi all

I took a photo at a regional spe******t food fare market / exhibition and got a real keeper. I checked the company's website and their pictures were pretty ordinary so I offered the shot to them. They have confirmed that they would like to acquire the image for future multiple use, on a royalty free basis.

I am an amatuer and have no idea what a single image would be worth. I suppose 'value' is very dependent upon what the company is prepared to pay but can anyone offer any advice?

Cheers

Pete

You need more specifics.

Licenses are usually granted for a limited period of time, in this case 1-2 years would be normal.

It's also important to know how the image will be used (commercially, for promotional material, etc?), where (on the internet? In a catalog? On a billboard?) and how many usages (are they printing 10,000 postcards or 50 promotional flyers?).

BC Thanks for the reply .... as I say, I still regard myself as somewhat of a novice at photography and I have never ever contemplated selling a shot before. I didn't even consider limiting the 'license' to 1 or 2 years.

From what they have indicated they are looking for complete unencumbered use, allowing them to use it on their website, for future printed promotional material or whatever they like.

If you could provide any examples of the variance of costing for say a limited use through to complete freedom, at least that would give me a place to start the negotiation with the company.

Thanks

Pete
