There is an annual fee for the Micro Secure Card Reader as well. Your first year may be free, but I'm not sure.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer Propay to Paypal, but one must know all the details.

Hi there,

I would like to let you know that I can integrate my payment module to other shoping carts. I use oscommerce religiously and had a need for it and thought that others would too since they cahrge so much for an integrated API access. When I wrote the contribution it was $400 first year and $200 each additional and that did not include the actual regular yearly fees and processing fees.

Just thought I would let you know,
Shawn

Default Open Source Verses Paid

There are others that feel the same way but this is not the case all the time when it comes to software. When it comes to software open source tends to be better because instead of having one person or company making the software better you have a whole community of coders.

Yes there are some updates / contributions / mods that if you install the coder that wrote it din't write it properly, or there are bugs etc. But we pay for Microsoft and look how many bugs we have in it and blue screens etc. Now you take a look at OpenOffice which which is a microsoft office alternative. It is just as robust, no blue screens, maybe some bugs but not as many and it is free. The developement on it gets better faster than Microsoft because you have a whole community working on it for the common good, no one dictating what gets added or when it gets added, or how much should we charge more for the new feature.

I am as I stated an oscommerce developer and I looked at other carts, paid and open source. Yeah they look pretty on the outside but when you get to the technical stuff like resources they use / how fast or slow / functionality etc, I can not say that I have found one that can stand up to what Oscommerce has to offer as whole with all the contributions available. Oscommerce can be and do what any other cart out there can do, it's just you have to develop it yourself or pay a developer to do it if it wasn't already done.

VeriFone Official Site | Secure payment solutions for credit & debit cards, EMV, contactless, & NFC. .. it's a name that most americans use on a daily basis at the mall, gas station, grocery store, etc. So that should fix those who frown on paypal (which is kind off odd if you ask me). They also have a mobile option called payware that includes a small attachment that allows you to swipe a clients card directly on a iPhone.

I'm a bit confused why your clients didn't want to pay a PayPal invoice with a credit card. From what I understand, they would not have even had to have a PayPal account to do it, and no additional fees would be involved on their end.

Part of the issue is that PayPal has had compromised security on many, many occasions. There have been lists of thousands upon thousands of people's credit card and bank information leaked from that company. I have a PayPal account, sure. But I don't really like the idea of using it unless there's no other option. I feel the same way with sites that have a PayPal payment method. It's nothing against the specific vendor, but everything against the sketchy security of PayPal.

It looks great, and I've been drooling over it. HOWEVER, It's still very much an infant. There have been HUGE backlogs as they've worked out the kinks. The idea is great, but I'd wait a year or two to let all the bugs get worked out. If you have a few minutes and want to read their forum for more details on issues, go here.

I'm not 100% sure, but I would say convenience. It's easier to swipe a card than go through the hassle of paying through PayPal.

Xposurepro - Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.
