Arrow Commission Rates?

Let me make this clear: this is not a CC post. I'm not asking for your opinions of my work, I'm asking how much you charge. Please refrain from snidely referring to my photos as idle goofing off, or egotistically inferring that it's not of your "taste".

Thanks.

Even for someone like me who doesn't have any experience shooting commissions? What would be a better price?

and if you start with those prices, you're going to find it harder in the long run to bring your prices back up to anywhere close to the industry average...

Sure, go low, you'll get work, but you'll be running round like a crazy headless chicken trying to do as many jobs as you can just to pay for that next new lens...

That's true. What are the normal industry prices?

You've been shooting four years... you take an OK shot, though your portraits on your site may not be to everyone's taste (Hey, I like dark) ...what would be OK? Well, do you have to travel and hour and a half to shoot? do you have to hire lights? ...it varies, sure, but where to start - not at thirty dollars... research your local area, check out people's websites, ask for quotes.... bring yourself inline...

If you're scared to charge now, you're going to get to a point where you think "I've got to start charging the right amount" and you're going to have a freak out and the clients that use you are going to have a freak out "WHOA! but you only charge 30 dollars!!.... mary told me that's what you charged her?!" ..and so on

:-)

good grief, you wont last long like that.

I charge $80 per hour to individuals & $125 for Companies and those i think will be difficult.
that covers expenses and time.

outside of the city travel is additional

for portraits sessions i offer image buy out at $80 per image
OR
Prints of the session priced "per print"

for commercial stuff.... havn't done much work there, but price according to how the image will be used etc etc.

the company i work for (day job) pays $300 PER IMAGE to the hired photgrapher after he has charged his hourly rate.
He produces 20 or so images.. they buy what they like on a per image basis.

Edit,
as Sime said... do some local research and see what others are doing.. price accordingly.
Also, figure out your cost of doing business.
Insurance, travel, etc etc

So the equivalent of $206! How much do you charge for consultations or are those free?
