Default Portfolio vs client galleries

Wondering.... is it better to have two separate things your portfolio and a client gallery? I currently just list all my photos from the client on my website. I use zenfolio right now but have been looking to go bigger with like blu domain but I would like my portfolio to be separate. What sites offer a gallery protected site for clients. Does that make sense?

i can only answer the first part, so i edited out the rest, but I believe so

In my opinion, your portfolio is showing off your best work for you to get more work...
Your client gallery is just that, a spot for your clients to go and get their galleries.

I have been cross pollenating them tho, some I use in my client gallery, and since I am getting agressive with a portfolio, with permission, using them in my portfolio if I feel fit to do.

What limitations are you having with zenfolio?

^^ What he said ^^.

Think of it in the "real world". If you're meeting with a potential client, are you going to show them every single proof book you ever made for a client? Or are you going to show them a selection of the best photos from all the shoots you've ever done?

I currently use Zenfolio for both. I've customized my home page to only show my portfolio, but have private galleries for clients to login and order prints. These options are probably only available for the premium accounts, but I've more than made back the annual fee in print sales.
