Default What is a fair and reasonable price?

I am hoping you can help me. I was recently contacted on my flickr site about a photo that someone wants to purchase and use for advertising. They want the photo RF, they are going to use it for a 3m bill board a 45cm bill board and menu, flyers, and Logo for their internet site, and for any possible upcoming events. I have no idea what to charge and would love your opinions,

What's the image? Who is asking? what kind of rights/usage do they want?

Here is the photo Urangan Pier on Flickr - Photo Sharing! The person who contacted me was from a design agency putting together an advertising promotion for a new a client. They wanted unrestricted use of the photo for as long as they wanted to use it. The original is 58mb in size.
The matter has now finished because their idea of a fair and reasonable price was very different to mine. They were offering me $80. for the photo and did a very quick back step when I asked for $400. I asked for this only because I have photos like this on a Australian stock site and for a photo of this size I think it is the going rate. But since I have no idea of what I am doing I would love to know from someone who does have some idea.

Sorry, OsmosisStudios, I do not understand your reply, do you think $80. would have been a fair and reasonable price? that is all I am asking.

Not speaking for OS here, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't think $80 is a fair price for unrestricted usage of your photo. You quoted them a fair price in my book.

ETA: Beautiful image BTW. I can see why they'd want to use it.

Your price was much closer to appropriate than theirs.

$500 for the first printing, a % of prints after that.

But that's me, I've been dealing with book editors lately

Thankyou, maxharvard, Niresangwa, Jamfke, OsmosisStudios, for replying to my question. I still have no idea really about what to charge, I would like to think it is as simple as a price I am happy with and a price someone is prepared to pay, and I guess ultimately that will be the deciding factor, but I don't want to charge more than something is worth and I also don't want to be taken advantage off. I found a site on google that gave me a ready reckoner, that one worked out to $1000.+ just for use on the billboard, haha. in my dreams.

If you haven't already checked this thread, it has links to some excellent info on pricing.
