Yes and no. Permission isnt needed, but is generally recommended, and the author is also supposed to contact the copyright owner BEFORE publishing to let them know.

Although I have used tracking software in the past, these two came up by pure coincidence. The football (soccer) website I came across by searching for an older website I use to visit, and the hotel was actually me putting my username on a google search after finding the other one.

Thanks again for the replies and somewhat explaining the copyright world to me. I have to say that I don't mind people using my pictures, I actually feel some pride in it (as I'm not looking for monetary returns, except if it's a business), but just the idea that the individuals don't warn you of the use gets under my skin.
