Default OK, Tear it up! New website awaits your wisdom...

Hey all! I'd really appreciate you taking a look at the website my DH made for me, and let us know what you think. I am currently waiting for three babes to be born so I can add to the newborn portfolio, but so far they're all comfy where they are. Thanks in advance!

Really nice site... looks quite professional, not too busy. Your images are good, I think it represents you well.

Can you get an email addie with the web site, vs. using a yahoo account? It would make it just a little bit more professional.

agreed. with a cursory glace, it looks clean.

I think the font could look a little more refined and less... 'MS Wordy'.

I would lose the 'each' after your items prices.

It would be nice to navigate your gallery. I may have missed something but i couldnt see thumbnails, nor navigation to flick through the images.

Only things that jumped out to me.

Pretty nice site, theme from blog to site different, but not in a bad way. the only real point to make is that the blogs section didn't have the main sites page as a link other than in the links section. typically the "main" page or index.html on a site is included in the sites navigation. Page loading is going to be an issue, are you hosting it yourself? it crashed a few times while loading some of the pages.

all in all pretty nice.

Perhaps try a different body text. It doesn't fit in with the feel on your website. The bright white font colour is also a bit contrasty to the brown background too, so maybe try a different colour if you like?

This is all I can pick out so far. The rest looks good

Thanks for the input everyone! Totally stuff we didn't think of...

Looking into the email thing. Crash is interesting...that hadn't happened in my browsing but we realized the photos weren't all websaved and just haven't resaved them yet, so hopefully that's the issue.

Ready? Here goes

After waiting an eternity to load (on my fast connection, thankyouverymuch), I actually thought there was an error. So I loaded it again. Nope, turns out the brown textured background only goes out so far and is surrounded by a light sky blue. While the colours would work normally, this is not one of those occasions. It's a painful transition. I'd suggest either finding a way to "float" the brown section or border it somehow that looks good. I'd also suggest moving the "bio" link form the very end to between Portfolio and Pricing.

As for the main page: the flash widget thing took a while to load, and the second Image I saw was of the two girls in the water. I hate to say something bad about your photography, but that image makes them look dead or depressed. Its not an image I would have in my portfolio for newborn and children. Art/concept photography, yes, but not for what you're advertising the site to do.

Portfolio page works well (again, took a while to load: ouch). I'd have liked a bit more control over which images I was looking at. At very least a pause button.

Some of your prices are quite expensive (4x6 = $10, photobooks at $115?!) but others are just way too low (plaque mounts = $35?) I'd revise this list. Your session fee is also very low (half of what I'd recommend). There are also some graphical glitches at the bottom of this page, where the brown section ends.

Contact page is nice, though I find the copy text to be a bit on the larger side. Bio page is nice as well, though I find the single-column fill with a two-column design to be a bit odd.

Overall the site is nice, save for the load times and a few organizational issues. There are some graphical issues at the bottom and tops of most pages with the brown background. I dont know what's causing it, but i'd definitely look into it.

I don't get it...it loads quickly on three computers in this house...we don't have the highest speed you can get either. Hmmm, does anyone have an idea what could be causing it?

As for pricing, I admit I had a really hard time with that...I researched what the market is here and tried to go with the average, based on how I feel my work compares to others. It is a smaller size city...about 90 000.

Oh yeah and the column in the bio is for a photo, like on the other pages, but that is today's project. I just wanted to get an idea of what to still fix.

Thanks, and keep the tips coming!

Osmosis, (or anyone else who sees it) if you would pretty pretty please post a screen shot of the graphical issues you're talking about I'd be most grateful. We cannot see it so can't begin to fix it. Thanks a million!
