Default Subjects that make good stock photo?

Hi,

I've realized that your best landscape picture isn't necessarily a great sell-able stock photo. So my question is, what sort of subjects usually make a good stock photo? I guess people shots are highly rated - am I correct? What do you think? What subjects make sell-able stock photos?

people shots sell allot.
the vast majority of my sales are from people shots.

in NZ the most searched for keywords are typicaly ..... Maori, Family, Beach, Business,

anything where you can add a person into a context, like a business setting, where its not too speciic as to what they do will sell allot.
Eg. a person in an office will sell more than a nurse giving an injection... so to speak.

Thanks! While I've got you, what is your favorite NZ stock photo website? Mychillybin.co.nz? There's a lot of info available on US agencies but I'm looking for something local.

Pretend you are a new business putting together a website or brochure. What images would you include? How can you show what your business is all about through images? Clean, friendly, inviting, efficient, helpful...How can you show these qualities with still images?

Hi,

First off, consider who is buying stock photos and for what purpose?
Once you answer this question you soon realise that EVERYTHING can be photographed and sold, ther is a market for everything you can think of.

So basically, heed any and all advice, but take photos of the things YOU like photographing, that way they will be of your highest quality and you wont get bored of taking them

Hope this veiw of stock photos helps you out

I use mychillybin.co.nz and haven't done too bad. I really need to spend more time on it. I think that using their top keywords is really a good place to start.

the "most searched keywords" was actully my suggestion that they implemented

Maori, business, beach are almost always the top ranked.. and yes "generic" people shots wil sell allot.

dont make them too specific, like a nurse giving an injection, more like a smiling face in a generic surrounding.

all my top sellers are people shots with a generic theme, but well keyworded.

Thanks, that's basically my philosophy as well. I try to stick to it. That's why I want to shoot stock photography so I can shoot what I want (as compared to say, wedding or something that I'm not even remotely interested in).

Thanks, I need to submit my mychillybin application too - I love the keyword idea on mychillybin - I'm surprised others don't do it aswell. Is mychillbin the biggest agency in NZ and are there any alternatives??? Basically, I opened a free account with PhotoSales.co.nz.. are they any good? Sorry for picking your brains :P
