Default clickpic or other UK webhosts?

I need to get a new website! I have one already with some crappy software that my hubby and I built but I hate it. It looks so crap! WWIII breaks out in our house when we BOTH sit down together and try to sort it out lol!

Trouble is I'm no graphic designer by any stretch of the imagination so I need something easy to follow and easy to set up by myself so I get it how I want it to look. I also want it to look less amateurish. Its catch 22 because once I get some more money I'll invest that into a decent site but for now beggars can't be choosers.

Anyone got any ideas?

My website is hosted by 1and1 - the first version of it was produced using their free site-builder software, but it wasn't very flexible and I didn't really like any of the templates much. It's still hosted with 1and1, but I've switched to using The Image File (mainly for the very easy hosting of customer galleries, order fulfillment, and corporate client facilities), and their free site-building stuff is a fair bit better, being aimed mainly towards photographers.

It's still not as great as I'd like it, so I'm working on building a new site from scratch to replace the Image File version, although I'll still be using the Image File's commerce coding (if I can work out how)...

Thanks Russ! I checked out the UK's top 10 web hosts and 1and1 is No 8! Worth considering. Still mulling over other options.

If anyone else has any other suggestions please add.

Found this site on how to avoid creating a bad site:

Bad Website Ideas - What Makes a Bad Website

Of course its just someone else's opinion but there is still some good do's and don'ts in it.

Hi,

Personally I use Clickpic

I found their range of 'templates' very good (in both design and amount)

And its relatively easy to geta decent looking website within say 5hrs work on your part
(The help file is excellent, taking you through every step if you need it)

There are lots of things you can change within the templates if you have some web design knowhow to make your site very flashy, I dont have this know how, so my site looks more 'classical'
(afterall, what are you trying to say with your website, that yor good at page design or that your a good photographer)

Clickpics most basic package will allow you to upload 100 pics, which is more than enough If you are trying to give people a 'taster' of your stuff with a veiw that they will hire you

All the best
