Default Sale prices for a Juried Exhibit

I just got the good news that three of my images were selected to hang in a juried show in a small gallery in Burlington Vermont. As a photographer who has primarily sold my images in greeting card format from my website, I am asking for some community feedback here.

The images will be framed to 16 X 20 and matted to 11 X 14. as expected the gallery will take their cut of the sale price. I have a price in mind, but want to make sure it is a price that maximizes my profit while staying reasonable enough to sell. An image priced at $500,000.00 would net me nothing as it would not sell.

Based on what I've supplied, I'd love to hear from those of you with experience in this field. I am posting the images below for you to see. Thanks for all your constructive ideas!

Fussy Falcon

Some mighty fine photography there. What do you mean an images priced at $500.00 would net you nothing? Maybe you check with the gallery to see what type of prices images such as those have gone for in the past.

Thanks Jim. I meant to have the amout there be $500 thousand, not $500 as I can bet I'd never sell a photo for half a million. At least not yet ...

Meadster,

I don't have any experience with that either, but since there are not many replies, here is my take. I would try to visit other galleries in the area to get a feel for what they charge for comparable prints. I think visiting is better than calling because you can probably get better information from a face-to-face conversation once you have developed some rapport with the gallery staff. This time of year, there may be county fairs with photographic exhibits as well.

Another option is to peruse eBay and see what comparable prints have sold for.

Oh yeah, nice images! I really like the falcon.

Thanks Greg!
I've been seeking thoughts on this mostly because I cannot check out the local prices because the exhibit is in Vermont & I live in Texas.

I've gotten some good feedback from galleries here in Dallas, but trust me, Dallas is definitely not Vermont

Thanks for your comments, they are most appreciated!

The best way to do it is to check local prices at other galleries. Since your not there, try googleing galleries in that area and check the prices on their websites.

Meadster,

Ah, I guess I should pay closer attention. I didn't notice you were in Texas. I found this list of Vermont art galleries online - Vermont Art Galleries VT Art Centers Artists VT Artisans Fine Art Artist Studios Artwork Gallery Gifts

They don't all display photos, but there are over 20 listed there, so I would think someone at one of those numbers should be able to help you.

Good luck,
Greg
