Meadster, which gallery? Burlington isn't too far from me, I haven't been paying attention to calls for entry.

A general rule of thumb is to price at 2-4 times your cost. So, let's say that for 11x14 matted to 16x20 you're spending $25 on printing, matting, and framing, and another $10 each for packaging and shipping. Not sure if these are close to your costs, but hopfeully that's the ballpark. So, for a $35 cost you're looking at roughly $70-$140 for each print.

Then you decide if you want to bury the gallery comission or not. If the gallery collects 30% of the sale, and you price at $70, you're getting $49 for your $35 effort. That hardly seems worth it to me. Say you decided to roughly split the difference and settle on a value of $100 for each print. The $30 hit there is a little easier to swallow, or your could "bury" the comission by bumping the price up 30% to $130.

I wouldn't worry too much about trying to find exactly the right pricing. Buyers are capricious, you can't say for sure that if you had priced $20 less someone would have bought something. Price the pieces at what you think your work is worth. Note that the type of print, type of mounting, frame, whether or not the photos are part of a limited edition, etc etc all affect the value.

Bcampbell, Thanks for the feedback! The gallery is the Vermont Photo Space Gallery in Essex Junction. Their website is Vermont Photo Space Gallery The exhibit runs from July 11th through August 6th with a reception on July 16th. I am going to be in NYC for a few days before that and I am trying to adjust my flights so that I can attend the reception before I fly back to Dallas in the 17th.

Thanks again for your insights! Have a Happy 4th!
