Default Sales tax on services...

Hi everyone! I am in the midst of getting all of my tax stuff in order and wanted to see if anyone had any input about photograph and sales taxes. I just got a state tax # and am in the process of getting a parish one. To your knowledge, should just prints and products be taxed, or also shoots and services?

I am looking for a good accountant but just thought i'd check here for the time being...

Thanks!

It varies based on your location. You might be able to find something about it on your state tax dept. website?

I am in NC, so this may not help you, but here sales tax is only added to goods. Services are considered labor, which is not taxed to the end user. You, on the other hand, would have to fill out a quarterly earnings statement, and report it.

Anyway, you would still need to research, and see what is applicable in your area.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, I knew about quarterly reporting of income and paying federal taxes on that. I am really confused on what the laws in Louisiana state about sales taxes on services... I think that here, as long as a product is delivered from the shoot (a print, cd etc) then the entire shoot is taxed. I hope not! If so, oh well, I'll just pay it.

I guess this will be a question for whatever accountant I decide to go with.

One question. Did you also contact the state about getting a state business license?

Here in FL, all services are taxed as well as goods.
