has anyone had any lick with depositpjotos.com?
If anyone out there uses (as a contributor/photographer) any stock photography site that they are happy with, please let me know. I'm looking into some now to maybe start, but I want reviews first, and often, reviews are written by the people themselves, so I figured I'd ask here at dps. Thanks! |

I have been a member of dreamtime for almost two years now, have 71 photos online and sold I think 50 or so, how much have I made. $48 dollars so far and can not get that until I reach one hundred dollars.
Unless you want to do stock full time and I mean full time, in my opinion it is not worth it. You have to train yourself to take stock only, you have to stop the thinking wow what a pretty sunset and say will that sell if I photograph it instead. I still submit but only rarely, If I ever get the 100 dollars I would ask for it and delete all my photos from the site. Most stock sites are the same, you would be better off taking photos puting your copy logo on them and sending them to magazines yourself. I have sent photos to apple magazines, flowers shops etc. Best of luck with whatever you do

I've tried Dreamstime, shutterstock, and istock.
Dreamstime is worthless, as mentioned above. I have quite a few photos on there, and don't think I've cleared $20. Waste of time. Shutterstock is interesting. They're acceptance rate is better than Istock, and you sell a lot of photos, but only for a quarter each. It adds up, but sales aren't consistant. New photos sell well, but die down after a month or so. I've cleared $100 with them, but most of it was made in the first month with about 30 photos. Istock is different than shutterstock. I have very similar photos on both, but only about 20% of my photos sell on Istock. Sales are steady, usually with 2 or 3 per week at an average of about $30/month with the 20 or so photos I have (but again, 16 of the photos have never been sold). In summary, don't waste your time with Dreamstime. Put your most awesome photos on Istock, and your crappier photos on Shutterstock. |

I've looked into depositphotos.com and they seem pretty good. They are new, so that has two sides to it. One is that there are less photos so there's more of a chance mine will be chosen, but they aren't as well-known, so the audience isn't as big, but they seem to be pretty good.
Also, any tips for which types of photos sell on stock sites? |
