I was contacted by a web site Editor that wants to use one of my photos for an on-line segment and a related iphone application.
The offer is "credit for authorship of the photograph". The photo is actually a snap taken with a P&S, just got lucky I guess. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, primarily in terms of ensuring credit for authorship but with regards to any value of the photo as well. Keep in mind that I'm a hobbyist (at best), I've never sold or had a photo published before and likely never will again. I won't make money from photography and would consider simply having one of my photos published as a small but worthy achievement alone. Thanks in advance!

The application is a walking tour iphone app, sells for $4.99 per complete "tour" and my photo would be one of about 50 included. No idea what sales volume is, certainly varies by City. This City, though well known nationally, is not one you'd expect to see routinely advertised internationally as a tourist destination.

Keep in mind the photo is a P&S snap. Though it is a good representation of what I think the editor is looking for, it's more of a waypoint on the tour rather than a highlight.

Doesn't matter if it was taken with a $200.00 P & S or a $7000.00 MK IV Ds model. The main issue is that he'll be making money and you'll only get credit. Credit doesn't pay the bills, or more importantly earn you some money to put aside for an upgrade in camera gear.

The reality in this case is that they will just get another picture from another source if you try and bill them for 2% of whatever.
I would take the ego boost... it is all you could seriously have hoped for when you took the snap |
