Thumbs down Just wanted to moan about high school student "photographer"

I just need to moan for a minute (only a minute!) about a Facebook posting that came to me today - some local high school kid has decided to turn her hobby into a business for the summer and is charging more than what I charge. I took a look at her images and they're so incredibly bad, they're laughable. Out of focus, terrible lighting, awful composition, and some images in her "portfolio" even have a date stamp! Now, I know everyone has to start somewhere, and everyone deserves a chance to learn and grow - but this kid calling herself a photographer just really got to me today. There. Harumph! Now I'll go back to being nice and getting on with my own work.

This kid will not be the first, nor will she be the last. You're probably already surrounded by literally dozens of photographers, or photographer wannabes in your immediate area. Don't fret about it...The cream will always rise to the surface. The secret is being the cream!

Agreed with Vinnie. And honestly, I wouldn't worry about her being competition - if her photography is that bad, people most likely won't want to pay outrageous amounts of money for it. And if they do, they deserve what they get.

We have a running joke at work (photo retail). We see lots of tweens and teens coming into the store looking at entry-level cameras because they're "big and professional". They dont care about the images, theyre in it for the look.

We call the entry level cameras "Hipster bling" when these kids come in.

Some of us do. Some of us save up for a long time because we want to get a good camera, not an entry level camera that we'll want to upgrade from in a year or two.
I don't care for your generalization.

So... what's the definition of "photographer" again?
