Default Lens rental for upcoming shoot

I'm doing a kid shoot in a few weeks with a 2 and 4 year old and am considering renting a lens for my D300. I'd like to hear some suggestions on an exceptional lens for this type of shoot. It will be outdoors and I know the kids will be on the MOVE. I am just not happy with the pictures produced by my kit lens and my 18-105 (hate this one......)

I second Osmosis. I use Canon's, but the focal length would be perfect for photographing children.

What Os said with one caveat. I like to work a bit further away when it's outdoors and with these age kids let them do what they do while I move around for better shots so in this case I'd actually prefer the 70-200 2.8 and if an extra camera was avail I'd probably have a 85 prime stuck on the end o it (preferably the 1.4 but the 1.8 don't suck).

Depending on my working distance, I use a D300 + 24-70 f/2.8, 85 f/1.8 or 80-200 f/2.8. All of them are great portrait lenses and would work wonderfully.
