Default A Common Question!!

Hey everyone,

I know this seems to be a very widely asked question and I'm sorry if I repeat someone already in this forum. Anyways I have been photographing landscapes and such for a while now, but am now looking to possibly make some profit off of these photographs. A few months back I made my own site with the help of wix.com. This is my site:
James Marro Photography and Graphic Design Portfolio
I assume most people would be interested in the landscape and nature photos on my site.

Do you guys think these pictures are desirable to anyone?

Also, I am looking into prices for these photos. I have looked around the forum here and there are many useful tips already for gauging and finding what price is best for your photographs, but all of them are subjective. This is expected as it is a hard question to give advice on. However,if you were the buyer what would you pay for one of my photos of say 11x14?

If I do end up selling prints of my photos I will probably offer them in a variety of sizes. To get the photos developed i might use MPix as I have used them in the past and am comfortable with them. Does MPix or other printing companies allow someone to sell prints that have been made from them? If so I will probably just use MPix to send directly to the client.

Thanks for all your advice, I deeply appreciate it!!
JMarro

You have some great art there, it's just a case of finding the right market.

Find something unique about your shooting and work to that end.

SO many photographers, all travelling down the same gravel path - make yourself stand out.

I really like your pictures! I'd say if you want to get them out there, you could try selling to puzzle companies, calendar companies or magazines. If you want to sell them on your own, I don't know how that would work, you need exposure, so you'd need to hook up with someone who will help you find people who want them, or show them in a gallery or something.

Enjoy, and keep it up!

flash is going the way of the dodo, nice site but it's going to be outdated sooner than you'd like to think about.

I like the pictures and I agree with the find the nitch comments.

not sure how important it is to list your equipment the way you did, and also discussing how little relative experience you have.

Nice images though. Keep expanding the book!

How do you suggest I get in contact with such companies?

@elkidogz
I know flash isn't the best method to base a website off of. I was thinking about trying to replicate the site but without flash and then having the opening page the viewer can decide between flash and non flash. However, I'm not sure what resources to use in order to do this.

Thanks for all the advice on this guys its really helpful!

JMarro! You definitely have a knack for the landscape thing! I looked through your landscapes portfolio and was amazed by some of those shots. The one that stands out as a definition of your modern yet classic landscape scene shots is that amazing waterfall picture with the blue water and beige rocks. I know you could sell prints of landscapes you just need a way to advertise... I agree with the above... find an outlet man. You have the talent! Keep it up and best of luck.

Thanks JustinB!

I have actually decided to try out smugmug. So i signed up for their trial and am going to see how things go, but I think i have a 50% off code so is it worth spending the $75 for the pro account rather then $20 for the basic or should I go with the power account for $30. I'm pretty sure I wont get the basic package because there is little difference between the payments for the power and basic accounts, so i guess what im trying to ask is which is more worth the money, the power or the pro?

THanks,
JMarro

There is a book out there, you can find it in all the typical book stores called "Photographers Market" They list nearly EVERY company that buys photos, magazines, calendars, stock companies etc and tells you how to subit them. It's not too expensive, about $40. It's updated every year. I'd give that a try maybe.
