Just started a FB fan page myself a few days ago and was also wondering about the best way to get "liked". I'm sure it will just take some time. I think I have "liked" everyone in this thread up to now (well everyone that I could find a link to fan pages for). Jim I can't seem to find a link to your fan page, did I just miss it?

Anyway here's mine if anyone want's to "like" it. KKH Photos | Facebook

Have a great day!

Nope, not a group. I do have the insights link. I'll have to dig further sometime, but so far I still think the normal page is a better approach.

Candleman, I just added my "like" to your FB page too. I didn't do it because you asked but because I really love your photography and you've got a great website. Good luck with your social media marketing!

OT from the original post, but I just have to say I thought it was so much better when it was "become a fan" instead of "like". Every time someone "likes" my page (and thank you all who do!!!) I feel like Sally Field when she won an Oscar - "You like me, you really like me!" LOL!

I may just link my page here, like Jim Poor did. I use Flickrtab to update my FB page as I add photos, so everyone can see. It is my personal page, and I am very opinionated about current events. If you want to friend me, and aren't easily offended, I would be more than happy to have you as a friend. I will throw the link up when I get home.

I don't think there are any great tactics to get liked, just plenty of patience. Obviously using the viral nature and encouraging people to comment or click the like button on your posts is the best way after your initial launch.

I toyed with several ideas when I first used it, but never followed through with competitions. They seem a little tacky.

I have used the FB advertising system which if used judiciously isnt that expensive and has worked for me.

Hate to drag this OT but how many Facebook threads are really needed in one subforum? Have any of you guys worked with the FBML app to pretty up your Fan Page? I've yet to find a clear tutorial on how to employ it.

I'm on speaking terms with HTML. FBML just looks at me funny and says 'no' though.

Ideally I want to create a visual splash page when my Fan page is visited rather than them hitting the wall. The info tab of plain text is just plain dull.

So in short, FBML tutorials anyone?

TIA

Steve

I wouldn't say you're missing anything. FB, and the way it decides what is posted on who's walls, is more than confusing. I've never been able to figure it out myself and I've spent some time doing it. As an example, I'm friends with my wife (obviously). I am listed as being in a relationship with her. You'd think I'd automatically see all of her posts on her wall...you'd be wrong if you thought that. I have posts from people I've hardly ever spoken with (on FB) yet no posts from people I speak with all of the time.

However, I will say, I've gotten business off my FB page. I post shots and people look at them. Just signed 2 portrait deals from some portraits I posted up there. It's another way to touch your potential customers/referral sources. It's also free.

I can't help you with this but I do know there are various ways to pretty up a page. I just haven't had time to look into it myself.
