Default Disc question

So, as a favor, I shot a friend's son's christening last week. They, of course, would like prints. Unfortunately, the print pricing for 4x6 prints is a bit high through my website provider. I don't want to be bothered with running to Walgreens to deal with prints myself either when they can also go and get them.

Anyway, they've offered me money for the electronic versions. Since they are very good friends (almost family really), I have no problem doing this. What they give me is not my question. My question is, do I watermark (small watermark in the bottom corner) these files or not or does Walgreens or Walmart or these places do back printing? I'd like to have my info on these photos somewhere as she's giving them out to family. I'm guessing putting the watermark on the front of the photo (even if it's not large) may be a bit annoying. But how else (besides back printing assuming they do it) can I use this to help promote myself?

Thanks.

if you are wanting to use them as self promotion and want your name on them, I'd say either to print them yourself and put the info via a label on the back or do the water mark image on the front via photoshop.

As far as a Walgreens printing on the back of the image, I don't remember there being an option during the ordering process for that type of information. I THINKI remember someone saying Costco did something like that, but it may have just been Costco information and not the photographer.

If you are going to give them the CD to print the images remember to give them a written release....see other threads on here about that:

Great reminder on the written release. Already got one ready for them.

I think I may just go with a small watermark on the front of the image since they're going to be printing them so I won't be able to put a sticker on the back.

I would........sometimes you're best of friends screw you because they don't know any better.

Sorry, but if I were the bride and groom I wouldn't want the photographer logo anywhere on my photos. There is a time to make money and do promotion - using photos/files that you give to people for their own printing is not one of the those times. Put yourself in their position (let alone that they are your close friends). Do you want to see a photographer's info on your wedding photos? Most people would say no.

It makes sense to take the money for the electronic version and allow them to print them as they wish. It's not like you got a once in a lifetime photo of a pro ballplayer breaking his bat on a ball which is unlikely to be repeated

The photos are of value to your friends, not the world at large. With proper release, I'm sure YOU can still show of any noteworthy photographs in your portfolio and your friend doesn't have to be bothered by any marketing tactics.

It's a christening but this is exactly why I didn't just throw the watermark on the photos and put them on a disc. Just asking for other professional opinions.

Another reason I'm posing the question here. Not sure if I'm comfortable putting my watermark on the photos they're paying for (actually, paying or not doesn't matter since I'm giving them rights to print them for their use).

I don't think I would watermark the front.

If you were printing, then yes on the back print/label.

Since you are granting them a printing rights waiver, how about placing a copy of that wavier on the disk with all your contact info added.
Also printing the event title along with photographer info right on the disk label.
So no one can miss it.
