Where do you make money from images?

Personally I've done a few studio shots, a little stock photography, but most revenue comes for magazine shots.

I make the majority of my income from wedding, commercial and portrait photography. I do a good amount of magazine photography but that is dying off.

I don't directly but my wife uses a lot of my pics for her card and gift 'sideline' business which she works on in the evenings. (It's actually one reason she bought me a DSLR I suspect). It's mainly her cgi stuff but she does sell quite a lot of my images too, indirectly. It's not big bucks per item, comission varies from 10 to 20%, but collectively she's now selling 1000's of units per month, after being open a year, which adds up nicely, especially as a secondary income for something she loves doing. Makes me feel my pics are useful too.

Setup costs are zero, so it's quite a good alternative way to sell images so long as you are patient and have the tanacity, as well as finding a niche, so you stand out.

Her site is the bottom link on my sig'.

I'd say 50% of mine comes from high school shoots. Not like class shots, but portraits of their sport teams, and band. I do the group shots, then do the individual shots. I call it assembly line photography. Shoot one, and then ........next! These shoots pay too good.

Young ladies looking to build a port, 30%.

Shooting Realtor head shots probably 20%.

The very first 5 sales I had were from magazines, but so many people are willing to give their work away for credit, thats died off.

I'd love to get back to shooting nature, and wildlife stuff if I could find a market for it. I love shooting sun - moon rises over the ocean, and sunset over the ICW.
