I did a photo shoot for a friend last year for her daughter's 1st birthday. She recently asked me to do pics for her daughter's 2nd birthday as well as a few maternity pics of her.
She told me that because she has a lot of family, it costs her too much to get pictures for all of them and was wondering if this time I would consider selling her a CD of the photos from the shoot. I told her that I wasn't willing to do that and it would end up costing her more than she'd be looking to spend anyways. I did however, offer to sell her individual edited pics for a certain amount each. What would be a reasonable amount to sell these images for? She's thinking she'll get one 8x0 printed for them and a bunch of 5x7's for family, so she's not needing anything really large. |

A few things to consider, and as they say, "It's what the market will bear."
1) what are local photographers charging in your immediate area for similar work? 2) Where are your skill levels compared to the locals? 3) sometimes it's OK to give friends a little break on price, but make sure they know that. Let her know that the actual time taking the shots only represents a small portion of the time it takes after the initial session 4) Don't sell yourself "cheap"...you don't want that to be your reputation 5) Where will your enlargements be processed..a pro lab, or a Costco like service? There's no reason why you shouldn't expect to get a decent price for your work, but not knowing the above, it's really hard to say what you should charge. We charge anywhere from $60 - $125 for 8x10's depending on the process and paper used...that works for us Vince
