Default Backgrounds

I'm looking to build my stock of backgrounds I can use. I have a few solid color backgrounds, but I'm interested in getting some of other kinds. I'd like different patterns and such, but not sure where to look. Any ideas?

i just came from the art supply store (jerry's art) and it's a great place to pick up a few solid background rolls of paper. i paid 23$ for a roll of b/g paper from b&h...it's good, but i could have gotten a wider background for $20 at the the art store. paper is paper to me. then while at the register they had several rolls of b/g paper for 4.99. i almost cried. again wider than what i just purchased. next time i need a different color b/g paper, i'm going to the ART store.

you might also try a fabric shop. i have done that as well. 3 yards, full length, twenty six dollars. still cheaper than what i paid at b/h and it won't rip.

I think google should be your first choice as it is by far the best one.

You can also do a search for "textures" on Flickr and add them in post processing to make interesting backgrounds on solid existing bg's. Lots of people have them on there with creative commons licensing. Some examples:

Soft Vintage Wildflower Texture (EXPLORE #1??? the donkey must have taken up photoshop ) on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
free texture- spring on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

It's free and there are so many gorgeous ones available.

You can go to a fabric store and get a few yards. I picked up this fabric.

I paid ten dollars for 3 yards, and it works out perfectly! Fabrics tend to have some really cool designs that look great as backgrounds.

Do you have to stitch the fabric from the fabric store?
Everything I've seen is only a yard wide....How do you find fabric wide enough, without seams?

This fabric was probably 3 yards in width, if not more, that's why I only got three yards in length. I don't know if it's because I bought it from an actual fabric wholesaler as opposed to a fabric store, but I think it might also be because it's meant for curtains or something. It's a nice heavy fabric, great for backdrops because it will last long.

I went to the fabric store the other day. You can get the fabric in any length, as for width most of them were 44 inches wide which is too short. I asked the ladies and if you look for upholstery fabric it tends to be longer. Mine was 54 inches and some were even 60 inches. It is a bit thicker so it doesn't wrinkle as easy. Just talk to the ladies, if you ask for a certin width they will guide you to the right area.
