Default DNG to RAW?

Is it possible to change DNG files back to RAW files? I have been using Lightroom to import my photos. When I import them I change them over to DNG. But, I have been forgetting to save a RAW copy... So, now I'm worried about the part of my collection that is all DNG...

The DNG file is basically still a RAW file, it's just in a standardized format instead of a proprietary one. It still contains all the same data the sensor captured. No worries.

I do know that it is still basically a RAW file. But, my concern it that I ordered a new iMac and I still haven't made up my mind about using Lightroom or switching to Aperture. That is my concern...

From the Apple Aperture 3 RAW support page:

"Aperture also lets you work with most DNG files."

"Aperture works with most DNG files generated from cameras that support this format and with DNG files generated by the Adobe DNG Converter with the “Convert to Linear Image” option turned off."

So, I shouldn't really have anything to worry about if I decide to switch huh....
I still haven't made up my mind yet. I use Lightroom right now. But, now that I am waiting to receive my new iMac, the option to use Aperture 3 is becoming quite tempting. I'm currently deployed so I don't have the option of downloading a trial version of Aperture. I have been reading about it and it sounds great...

While all the image data is intact in DNG, when you converted from RAW to DNG, any proprietary-specific meta data may have been stripped, so my guess would be that no, you can't actually go back to the full RAW once you're in DNG.

This is the flip side of universal compatibility and giving Adobe a single (open) RAW format to shoot for.
