Default Laptop or Desktop

Do you use a laptop or a desktop to run your business? Or do you use both?

Any serious photo processing gets done on my desktop. Correspondence, client management, etc gets done on my laptop, a separate desktop from the photo machine or even my phone.

True, I only use my I-Mac when I'm at home and working on fine art prints and such.

Actually, that was a serious typo on my part. My photo machine is a desktop, but I it has been one of those days.

I'm in the process of figuring out what my next machine is going to be. More and more, I'm leaning toward a 27" i7 iMac for video editing and heavy work, and keeping my 15" MBP for mobile work. Not sure if that helps you though.

I have a PC laptop. It's really decent but I was thinking of jumping ship to an Apple. I was looking at the iMac and also the Mac pro. The Mac pro is extremely expensive but very powerful. iMac seems to be the more sensible purchase and this stage in my photography. I'm now reading John Harrington's Best Business Practices For Photographers. He says always get the best equipment for your business. $3000 plus for the Mac pro is a little steep...

It helps!
Thanks! I'm just trying to see what other photographers are using. I was going to name this post Mac or PC but I didn't want to start a war...lol

When it comes to graphics and over all anti virus BS, you can't beat a Mac. Most of those viruses seem to affect the window based PC's. My son, COlin just got his PC (he's a gamer) back from the shop. The lady said he had a army of viruses and spyware affecting his machine.

1st Post, but as I'm a software engineer by day, so I feel qualified to chip in.

I have to agree with Jim completely, if you don't know how to keep a PC free of viruses (which requires some technical skills) and you plan on using the internet, a Mac is the safest way to go. If you're processing images that people have paid for you can't afford to get a virus.
