Default Assignment: "Noise/Sound" Nov. 4 - Nov. 18

This week we are trying to show sound in a visual medium with the subject "Noise" or "Sound".

*Originally announced as "Sound", but I inadvertently wrote "Noise" this week, so use either one. My bad.

I had to do a little thinking about this myself, and although I was unable to do my first choice - I was down and out with a back problem most of the week - I shot this yesterday.

Day 313-365 Noise

As always, rules:
Please note the change in closing time.

Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there.

1. Your original image you submit should be taken between the 4th of November and the 18th of November. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT ( 3am EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post!
[B]
2. Your post must include "Assignment: Noise" or "Assignment: Sound" (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry).

3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message.

4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an original image taken by you.

5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (800px on the longest side).

6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest.
For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text).

7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog Saturday late afternoon (EST) and here.

Next week we're going to do an interesting and fun assignment provided by one of our Super Mods, Peeperita. It's called "Kinetics" and here is her explanation.

This coming week's assignment is kinetic photography where the only moving object is part or all of your camera. Be it a zoom of your lens, movement of the camera in your hands, or, if your truly brave, tossing your equipment in the air. Trickier than you might think, these images will require long shutter speeds and small apertures.

EXAMPLES:

Default Assignment: Noise

I had hoped the smoke would show the rhythm a bit better... perhaps I should have tried classical music in stead?

I noticed this assignment was first announced as 'Sound' and now it's 'Noise'. Each brings a different feeling to mind, almost like 2 different categories. 'Sound' being more on the positive side, where 'Noise' is usually meant in a negative way. Each one can be approached differently. Why the change?

Default Assignment: Noise

music

Date Time = 2009-11-11 23:32:34
Exposure Time = 5"
F Number = F8
Exposure Program = Aperture priority
ISO Speed Ratings = 100
Focal Length = 34mm
Lens = Tamron 17-50mm

This is a speaker radio. What I am trying to do here is do a long exposure of 5 sec and zoom my lens from 34mm to 50mm. I hope this will create some movement and make it feel like sound is coming out of the speaker.

I was wondering the same thing… kinda bummed when I saw the posted assignment this morning as “Noise” and not “Sound” as it was originally stated to be.
