I know I posted this already, but it illustrates the idea of getting in close. Need to take some more portraits, too!

Default First Assignments post

Hi All,

This is my first "Assignments" post. I do a lot of family "informal" portraits and would love feedback on my favorites.

This is perfect! I'm starting a portraiture class (taking it) at our local art museum this Saturday. I should have lots of material available.

Anyway, to get started, here is a rather unusual one. This shot was taken with a Nikon N60 35mm camera. The "lens" was a Celestron C90 Schmidt-Cassegrain 1000mm telescope. I was on our deck, and my wife was working in the yard. She had no idea I took this. It's in landscape, rather than portrait mode because of the tripod requirements. I still like the way it came out.

The image was scanned, then had one of the overlay filters from one of the previous lessons applied in Photoshop CS2.

I, too, would like to learn more about lighting.

Rootshell, I like your picture. A lot of people like the lights sold here http://www.alienbees.com/. These are also good for starting at a decent price http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search. I've heard good about both, particularly alienbees, but alas, have tried none of them personally. But I'm sure there are othe DIY cheaper ideas out there.
