Default Assignment: Abandoned May 20- June 3

As posted last week, this assignment's challenge is "Abandoned".

*Saralonde - Feel free to delete when you're technically back in the saddle!! - Sime

Love the shot, Sime! And now that I have my computer somewhat on the mend, here's mine:
Day149-365 "Up, Up and Away"

a⋅ban⋅doned
  /əˈbændənd/ [uh-ban-duhnd]
–adjective
1. forsaken or deserted: an abandoned building; an abandoned kitten.
2. unrestrained or uncontrolled; uninhibited: She danced with abandoned enthusiasm.
3. utterly lacking in moral restraints; shameless; wicked: an abandoned and dissolute ruler.

So, how have you interpreted this topic?

I have had an extreme problem with my computer this past weekend and have not been able to download any of my shots from this week. My "abandoned" pics are still on my camera, so no example from me until I get this whole thing resolved . But I think the subject is pretty easily understood.

As always, the rules...Please note the change in closing time.

Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there.

1. Your image you submit should be taken between the 20th of May and the 3rd of June. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT ( 3am EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post!

2. Your post must include "Assignment: Abandoned" (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry).

3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message.

4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above).

5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (800px on the longest side).

6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest.
For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text).

7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog Saturday late afternoon (EST) and here.

Next week is another creative challenge, "Plants, but Not Flowers". We all are guilty of succumbing to photographing flowers, but this time we don't want to see any flowers in your plant shots. Take the time to really look at some plants to see what makes them interesting. Can you find a creative angle? Would a closeup work? Should you use a shallow dof? Really take into account lighting in this assignment. Good lighting can turn a ho-hum shot into a WOW.

Abandoned Chair

Day 56

I was driving around the farm area looking for things left behind by farmers when I saw this chair next to a fruit stand that was also abandoned. I also took a picture of the old fruit stand but i think this chair suits well because this desk chair don't belong in a farm.

I like the look of this B/W ... it feels really old

I normally wouldn't have framed a shot with the subject centered like this, but in this case it seemed to work. It's almost as if she's saying "Please don't leave me here...".

The Love Letter

I was supposed to write a letter or card to a friend, but never got around to do it. When I finally had some paper and envelopes, I couldn't even begin to think how to write, or cut out a card. So I just sat there cutting things up and it ended up like this.

Used a snooted off-camera flash for the lightning.

Camera: Canon EOS 400D Digital
Exposure: 0.02 sec (1/50)
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 24 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV

Assignment: Abandoned May 20 - June 3

click for 800x533px view

I happened on this wrecked truck while hiking around a state forest this past weekend (05/25/09). While it's "abandoned " in the most literal sense, the scene intimates reckless abandon as well: the pulled-out seat looks like makeshift bedsprings, the cab is shot full of bullet holes, and the sunk tires make the truck looked like it was quite literally driven into the ground. I'm guessing rowdy loggers, or maybe some fierce mountain women.
