Hi Guys

I decided to step up for a dslr and with the budget I have I have a choice
between two cameras. I want to shoot general photos like everyday needs at home and outside.
The cameras I can buy are

Yes Claude. Just toss a coin. They are both great cameras, but will only ever be as good as the part that stands about 2 centimeters behind them. PAUL

Have you been able to hold and try out each one? Image quality wise theyre going to be very similar, but handling theyre very different.

Don't toss a coin. Go find each of them in a store, and hold them in your hands. Take some photos, and notice how the cameras feel when you use them -- can you reach all of the controls easily? If you want to change a basic setting (say, aperture), are the command dial and mode dial easy to get to? If you have to go into the menus, does the interface make sense? Are they too heavy, too light, too big, too small?

Those are much more important to think about, given your choice, than any other aspects of the cameras.

Ok so a stupid question
If both feel good which would you choose?
Thanks again

I like to steer you toward the Canon if you're only interested in general photography. Nikon is good when you start from the D90 model while there are plenty of affordable auto focus lenses for the consumer line of Canon cameras.

I'd say you go for Canon Because not all Nikor Lens work on Nikon WITH THEIR FULL CAPABILITIES LIKE AF.

Good points, but, particularly if you are new to DSLR's the Nikon does have an inbuilt help facility, where at the press of the button, each selected option is explained to you. A bit like a buiolt in Instruction manual.

Other than that, I have no opinion eiother way.

You won't find that both are equal. The cameras are different enough (in construction, build, size, position of controls) that one will generally seem better to you.

Also, Nikon still has a great starter line... I don't really know where that Canon-Nikon comparison is coming from.
