I am helping the church with a small fundraiser and would like to tether my Nikon D90 to my Toshiba laptop. Can anyone tell my how I can do that without spending $180 on the software that Nikon has? That's just too much money, why can't they just give it to you like Canon does!
I would appreciate any help...thanks! |

You could try this: Download DIYPhotobits.com Camera Control — DiyPhotoBits.com — A few bits and pieces about photography
There are also options if you're using Lightroom, but you didn't mention that, so no point if that'd be more money.

Thanks for the answer, I looked at it briefly but it said it may have some problems with the D90, I will definately check that out further when I get a chance.
I don't own Lightroom but it was on my list to get soon, is there a way of doing it through lightroom? If so maybe this would be the time to get it. |

Yeah, lightroom has a free tethering plugin. Can't remember the name of it off the top of my head.

The plugin I've used is by MountainStorm and it looks like they've made heaps of improvements since I used it last. And it's free.

Thanks guys,
I did download the one suggested and finally got it to work for the most part last night. I think it's okay and will do for the moment but I probably will look into Lightroom since it was on my list anyway and then try that plug in by Mountain Storm. |
