Gotcha.I have the fuji film s6000 fd which is an awesome camera.

But I really like the Nikon D90 to upgrade to a much better camera. I've heard/read mixed reviews about the Canon Ti . would like an easy to use one.

Between the Nikon D90 and the Canon T1i, the Nikon D90 is the better DSLR.

The Nikon D90 is more of a prosumer (semi-pro/serious amateur) DSLR where the Canon T1i is an entry level DSLR (a very good one).

At this point the best comparison is with the 500D (T1i) which has some of the same video capabilities as well as the same features, in this instance it would be the one that fits best in your hands. Other than that the only other deciding factor is if you have friends that shoot with one or the other who could provide assistance on questions and have lens options to borrow...

But the others are right the best comparison for the T1i would be the Nikon D60

The D90 is more camera with more features. It's also more money. The D90 body new is ~$900. A T1i body new is ~$720. Better depends on what you're looking for.

"Easy to use" is not something that is a hallmark of any dSLR. You want easy to use, a P&S is a better bet. You want control of your exposures, then a dSLR comes up aces. But you are going to have to learn how to use the thing. A dSLR isn't a straightforward "upgrade"--it's a different kind of picture taking tool. Most of the serious photographers I know have both a dSLR and a P&S compact camera. Different tools for different tasks.

Why do you want a dSLR? What's your budget? And what do you plan to shoot with it? Then we can give you more solid recommendations. The point here is not to go looking for "the best" camera, any more than you look for "the best" pair of shoes. It's looking for the camera that's the best fit for you and your personal shooting style.

Nikon D90 is definitely a better camera than Canon 500D. Go for Nikon D90

Thanks for all of this.
I have learnt alot about photography in the last 2 years since I bought the fujifilm one of the first pictures that I took of my daughter looks similar to one taken now. * blur in the background* i guess since I want to take a jump into more serious photography portraits etc. I 'd like a better performing camera ( one that hasn't been dropped on concrete on accident

WHen I can I'd like to spend about a $1,000 prices are slightly higher in Canada.I love taking pictures of my daughter in motion at the park,at play, landscapes, macro, wildlife .I hope this helps.

I've read mix reviews on the Canon ti and would go with the nikon.
