Exclamation Canon 500D vs Nikon D90

Hey guys,

I just sold the body of my Canon 1000D and I currently have two options to go:

1) I can sell all my camera equipment, including my 18-200mm and 50mm 1.8 lens, in order to get the Nikon D90.

OR

2) I purchase a new Canon 500D while keeping the lens.

What do you think guys?

Any thoughts or suggestions? Should I shift or not?

Why not look for a Canon 40D or 50D body only?

Hey

I believe if you want to save money, you should go for Canon as you won't have to buy the lens all over again.

Canon 500D is a 15mp camera, while Nikon D90 is 12 mp
D90's viewfinder is better than 500D's
........................

Check out these 2 links and compare:

Canon EOS 500D digital camera specifications: Digital Photography Review

Nikon D90 digital camera specifications: Digital Photography Review

Keep in mind that if I had the money, i would go for D90 as its quite an awesome DSLR. And i just compared D90 with 500D and no other Canon DSLR.

Hope that helps

What made you sell your 1000D/XS? Was there something about it you didn't like or something it wasn't doing for you?

The 500D/T1i is still just an entry level DSLR. I don't think the Nikon D90 is considered an entry level body.

Have you looked at the 40D, 50D or 7D?

I had all intentions in upgrading so now I have the choice to upgrade or not. Nonetheless, I'm tempted too to purchase the 50D. However, I heard that some users were having problems with high ISO picture taking especially at ISO 12000.

And I didn't have any problems with the Canon 1000D. It was good for its price!

I hope it was a typing error. Even the Nikon D3 cannot handle ISO 12,000 well.

Go for the D90 (ISO 3200) if low noise high ISO is important to you.

I would have put the money towards better lenses, but it sounds like you already sold the XS/1000D so you're going to need a new body.

Between the 500D/T1i and the D90, the D90 is the better DSLR. But if you got it you'd have to sell your current lenses and get Nikkor lenses.

I'm a Canon shooter so naturally I'd say get the 500D/T1i.

But in the end the final decision will have to be made by you.

Ok. I think I'll be sticking to Canon. However, I'm having a dillema whether to get a 500D (keeping all my lenses including the 18-200mm) or selling my 18-200mm and getting a Canon 50D.

What do you guys think?

I think that if money isn't the problem you should go for 50D even though 500D is a newer camera.

Feature wise they are almost the same but 50D is more towards pro than 500D

Hope that helps

The 500D/T1i is an entry level DSLR (and a very good one) while the 50D is more of a semi-pro DSLR with better controls and a much more robust/rugged build. My suggestion is to try to hold each one in your hands (one after the other if possible) to get a feel for them. Then study the layout of the controls for each one. Basically, the 50D is much more camera than the 500D/T1i.
