My daughter is 15 going on 16 and would love to take photography in college. She really would like to get into extreme sports photography. Could you recommend a camera to purchase for her. She is using my kodak easyshare old camera. Thanks

If you have a budget around $500-600, Canon DSLR is the choice.

Canon or Nikon equivalent is what I would go for, either the Canon XSI ($400-500 used body) or T1i ($900 with 18-55mm lens). Personally any "prosumer option" would be a great starting point as it takes time to get acclimated to any system. I would have her go to like a Best Buy or camera specialty store to see which option feels better. My fiance shoots with me (Were both 21) and while she doesnt mind shooting with the XSI, the Nikon D90 felt better in her hands when we tried it out.

Well, except having autofocus with all lenses on an entry level body could just come in handy for extreme sports...
