Default Looking to purchase a Nikon Flash

Looking to purchase a Nikon Flash and was wanting to know which was better.
Nikon SB-700 or Nikon SB-900. Will be purchasing in the next couple of days. I have a Nikon D5000 to put it on.

Thanks

For what? I have a couple SB600's that serve me quite well for most things....I don't think it's likely you *need* the extra capabilities of the SB900.
Dan did a nice comparison of them HERE

Her question was: which was better?

Thanks for the referral, sk66. Yes, Danette, check out my comparison review between the SB-900 and the SB-700. Both are very capable units, and which one you should buy comes down to budget and what you're needs are with a flash.

When it comes to "which one is better," it depends on how you define better. It's different for everyone. Better could be more power, smaller and more compact, more flash for less money, top of the line features, etc... There are a number of different parameters by which any piece of camera gear could be defined as better by different photographers. Again, it comes down to your individual needs.

Also, you should know that Nikon has recently released the SB-910, which updates some of the features on the SB-900. Check out my writeup here.

Think I will go with the SB-700 since I am new to using a flash. From the review I read it will do what I am wanting it for.

Thanks

The SB-700 is a great flash indeed. It will do what most people need it to do, and it certainly costs a lot less money. I'm sure that you'll get awesome results with it.
