What do you want to accomplish with the camera? How involved/invested do you want to be?

Whats your budget, not just for the initial body, but lenses and flash as well (if needed) what do you want to shoot primarily?
I shoot Nikon, but i would recommend Cannon or Nikon just for the support, group knowledge, and variety of lenses around. Easier to learn about, rent glass for, they are just the two biggest. IF you have a friend with a nikon or friends with a certain brand there is benefit to that as well, borrowing lenses or flash, my buddy can borrow my flash if he needs it and i can thief his 55-200 if i needed it as well, if you buy a sony, you might be on your own cause they arent that common.

Bodies come and go, and they're pretty much all good. Look at the lenses, and see which system offers what you want/need more readily. Camera bodies are digital electronics. They stay with you about as long as a cellphone or a computer. Your lenses stay with you for decades.
