I have the D3100. If you're new to digital photography the D3100 is an excellent choice.
Budget for accessories. A tripod, filters, flash, a telephoto lens, camera bag etc. I budgeted the same amount for accessories as I paid for the D3100. FWIW. When I bought the D3100 package, I upgraded and got the 55-200mm VR telephoto added to the package for cheap. I can guarantee you'll be wanting a telephoto lens right away. The 55-200mm is a great lens. Light, sharp and fast.

Hi Molly. I'm also looking for a camera and have narrowed down my selection to:
If I had the budget, I'd get the Nikon d7000 without hesitation, but I'm having trouble deciding on the runner up! Keep us updated on your decision. |

You are not buying just a camera you are buying a photography system.
That said look over the entire system ( flashes, lenses, filters, gps, etc) and pick the one that works best for you.
