First of all, I'd like to preface my response by saying that I am not an aerial photographer but there are some things that I would suggest... first, take a look at some of the newer Canon bodies, like a 7D because the crop factor should allow more flexibility to get in closer for detail shots (without getting complicated), then I would recommend good glass, whether your shooting from plane to plane or your at aerial shows shooting from the ground a good 70-200 2.8IS will serve you well, plus a good mid range zoom like a 24-70 2.8 or the 24-105 which would allow you more flexibility to compose wide.

It depends widely on your specific goals, output format, and uses.
Most likely anything you currently have could be employed. For gis, habitat management etc, the Shorezone project over the last few years documented much of Alaska's coastline from helicopters at 300 feet with very basic dslr's and dv cameras. The still imagery can be downloaded and exif is still intact. Homepage here. |
