Question Is my choice right?

Hey friends!

I'm totally new here, so do forgive if I've written something wrong. I'm a beginner in photography who used to have a normal Point&Shoot camera. But now I wanna get better in it, so I shall buy a DSLR. I've chosen my equipment and going to buy tomorrow, but just for one last conformation, I asked you all is it right?

Camera : Canon EOS 550D/Rebel T2i
Lens : Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS

I have a budget of Rs. 50,000 - 55,000 ($1111 - $1222) so I can't buy a "too" good lens. I also want to do macro photography a bit but a macro lens is too costly and the filters, I don't know about them, how are they?

For how much time will this camera and lens perform correctly in in good hands? 3-4 years? Is my choice of camera and gears right considering I like to photograph Faces, Nature and telephoto shots of distant objects. Yeah I am 13 years old but I don't care.

Jayant

I will just welcome you to DPS; the Canon people should be along soon enough.

On a tightish budget that looks good.
I you can afford it the Canon 70-300 IS lens will give you more reach for some of the nature shots.

The camera should last for years (I still sometimes use a 5 year old Canon 350D)

For very close up photography (not macro) a macro filter may meet your needs.
See this thread.

70-300 IS lens is of approx.$815 (Rs. 40,000) here. 55-250 is of approx. $245 (Rs.12,000). See the price difference. So just these lenses fit best in my category. I hope to win photography contests and then use the money I get to buy better equipment. But that day may be too far.

By the way, thanks for the feedback. Is there a high distortion in these types of lenses?

Not really much distortion except at the wide end of the 18-55.
