Default P&S

Kinda looking around for a good point and shoot camera. The idea is to have something small enough to stick in a pocket or small bag and be able to shoot "other" photos when out with the bird rig sitting and waiting. I currently use my iPhone camera, but would like something better.
I could carry a second body, but I'm already loaded with the birding rig and don't want the additional weight of a second DSLR.
I've read reviews on lots of P&S cameras, and am only confused at this point. Normally I shoot Nikon, but I'm not brand specific for a P&S.

Requirements in order of importance: image quality, weight, weatherproofing?, raw capability?

What do you recommend?

Canon S95, Olympus XZ-1, and Panasonic LX-5 seem to be the current top-end compact P&S cameras. But if you can wait, give it a month. Fall product announcements are coming up.

If you've got more to spend, there are also the mirrorless compacts, like Olympus and Panasonic micro four-thirds cameras, Sony NEX, and Samsung NX. And then, there's the Fuji X100...

I certainly can wait to see the new offerings, but do admit the X100 is what I've been lusting for. I just can't justify the cost and am not sure it would handle the possible abuse I'd give it.

A late night for me waiting on the hurricane, which from looking at my palm trees may be about to hit my area. Well, a tropical storm now, but is supposed to be a hurricane before it leaves us.

It seems to finally have disappeared from B&H: it was a holdover that has been discontinued already. My contact with Samsung says a replacement is due in the spring.

The new P7100 with that CCD sensor sure has me interested. Shame it'll take months to see photos from it

just... dont. it'll be useless in anything but outdoor bright light.

That's probably true, and I don't normally shoot this type of camera. But in DSLR I still feel CCD gives way more detail than CMOS. Something has to be given up to get the high ISO capability.
Not sure how that translates to this sensor, but I do want to see some shots from this camera.
