Why don't you post an example with the shooting data so we can have a go at your question?

Hello! I have just a few suggestions:
1. Does your camera allow you to view the Histogram? If so, I would use it religiously and trust what it tells you over what you see on your LCD screen. 2. Take the time to properly set your monitor on your computer, and be consistent about the lighting your in while doing your editing. 3. If you find your camera is still giving you unreliable results you could try bracketing exposures. 4. Shoot in RAW format and a little underexposure is pretty easy to deal with in post. 5. You also need to make sure you have the camera's metering set right-- but I honestly don't know a thing about your camera to help you there, someone will though! Just a few things that pop into my head for you to consider and I'm sure others will be along to offer some more ideas! Good Luck |

Your monitor probably needs to be calibrated. If you don't want to buy calibration hardware right now, at least try these two links out; you'll most likely see quite a difference. Hope this helps!

Are you shooting in RAW? My 50D does the same thing in picasa and explore. Are they still dark when you load them in Photoshop, ufraw, etc?

The LCD screen should be adjustable (check your manual, for Sony under "playback display"), and it is not an accurate indicator of the true brightness of your scene. Take some pictures, download them to your computer, and look at both the computer and LCD screens at the same time. Adjust the LCD display as closely as possible to your computer screen.
