Default Advice on purchase of new camera . . .

I currently have a Nikon d80. I am looking into purchasing a new camera -- an upgrade.

What suggestions do you have that could help me in my decision? Would love your opinions.

Thanks so much!

It depends on your needs. D7000?

Yes, I was thinking about the Nikon D7000 . . . but was wondering about the Cannon EOS 7D. Also, is there another brand that is similar. . .

My current DSLR camera is a Nikon and my past film camera was a Nikon . . . but I am not stuck on one "brand", just want the best bang for my buck!

I am looking a camera similar to my D80, only better. Faster shutter speed . . . adjustment to light and quality.

Thanks so much!

Typically, a move from one brand to another is a pretty big decision -- not one to be taken lightly. In addition to the (considerable) cost of selling & replacing all the lenses and accessories that go w/ your camera, you're going to pick up an appreciable learning curve, too.

Unless there's something about the Nikon platform that's not working out for you (and you know for sure that Canon is going to meet your needs better), I'd stick w/ Nikon.

Default Upgrade

I have the same DSLR (D80) and are looking to upgrade. I like Nikon and from my research I learned that the D7000 is very similar in ergonomics than the D80 or D90 and therefore should be easy to get used to.

I think I will stick with Nikon.

The D7000 is a great option: Personally I'd be tempted to wait for a D300s replacement.

What lenses/flashes are you already working with? Is a body upgrade the only thing you need, or do you need to budget in some better lenses?

What budget do you have? Ultimately that will determine the upgrade.
